This holiday runs from Sunday 3rd September for 7 nights and is led by Katey. This week is a more intense week with a vegetarian menu and no alcohol included. The daily itinerary facilitated by Katey and the chalet team will run as follows:

7am: Wake up with a liver cleansing energy tonic

7.15am: Meditation

7.30am: Indian cleansing technique – Nauli Kriyas - the cleaning of the abdominal region (digestive organs and small intestine) and is based on a massage of the internal stomach organs by a circular movement of the abdominal muscles. This will make you feel freer and purer, inviting vitality back into the center of the body and prepare you for the day’s yoga practice.

7.45am: Pranayama – the formal practice of controlling the breath.

8am – 10am: Morning yoga practice with Katey– Ashtanga Vinyasa modified primary series and primary series – this flowing style uses breath, bandhas, drishti (gaze) and physical movements in a fixed sequence of postures. The use of these together increases the inner heat in the body, removing toxins and impurities on both a physical and mental level. As the week progresses so will the sequence and you will be able to track your progress throughout the week as you become familiar with the routine. Weather permitting, some morning yoga sessions will be in beautiful outdoor locations and on one morning there will be an early morning session to take in the sunrise.

10am: Brunch – the most important meal of the day and your Michelin restaurant trained chef will ensure your energy levels are replenished with an array of healthy, nutritious and delicious gourmet brunches throughout the week. 3pm: On four afternoons a 90 minute workshop will be included to further your yoga journey and improve your understanding of the practice and your body:

  • Mark your mat workshop – this specially tailored workshop will involve working in small groups to measure your mat and marking it up to ensure that your body is placed precisely when performing sequence and movements. Time to hone that downward facing dog!
  • Using your Bandhas workshop – learn how to become both light and strong in your practice. Starting with the three classic Bahdhas and moving on to the Bandhas throughout your body and how to use this knowledge to incorporate it into your poses and positions.
  • Ujjayi breathing and Drishti (your gaze) workshop – the use of breath and breathing is at the centre of yoga and much more importance is placed on this than flexibility. Knowing where and when to exhale and inhale will change your yoga practice. This workshop will also look at Drishti, the focused gaze, and how this can also be used to improve your practice.
  • Safe practice workshop – focusing on the protection of the body when practicing yoga and in particular correct alignment from the toes to the crown of the head.

5.30pm – 7.30pm: Evening yoga practice with Katey - this will consist of a variety of styles of both yoga and stretching. Some of these sessions will take place outdoors, including one in the lost village – a serene and private location a short hike off a track in the Vallée des Encombres.

8pm: Canapes (on 6 nights) – gather on the terrace for a catch up with your fellow guests and some healthy canapes to start the evening.

Food & Drink

Food is a huge passion of ours and is a key part of all of our holidays.

Getting this right for our yoga holidays has been a real labour of love to ensure that we stay true to our reputation of gourmet fine dining food, but also make sure it is befitting of a holiday where the concentration is on having a healthy body and mind.

Your chef has a real talent for creating clean, healthy and nutritious food from locally sourced produce and ingredients that will keep you feeling energised and well throughout your stay with us. Each of the holiday itineraries details the type of food you can expect when you choose to yoga with us and all dietary requirements can be catered for whether that be gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan or lactose-free – just let us know and your chef will provide a bespoke menu for you.

An open bar is provided for the yoga holidays (not the retreat week) with great wines, spirits, mixers and beers available throughout your stay. We believe that as this is a holiday, then it is your choice as to whether you would like a glass of champagne on arrival or a G & T before dinner with canapes each evening. Wines will also be chosen to complement dinner each evening. For those looking to go alcohol free for the week then there will be lots of choice of fresh juices and nutribullets, local water and sparkling water as well as fruit, herbal and green teas.

Our yoga retreat week is a vegetarian menu for the week with no inclusion of alcohol.

Yoga with Katey Reece

We are excited to introduce you to Katey Reece, our yoga teacher, who is working exclusively with White Mountain Chalets this summer to offer her expertise and infectious passion for all things yoga. Katey is a certified and fully qualified Yoga Alliance teacher, with a background of more than 15 years in the professional dance and fitness industry including qualifications in barrecore. Katey is a real believer in a healthy body, mind and soul and this coupled with her bubbly, hardworking and enthusiastic attitude makes her a fantastic teacher and mentor.

Yoga retreat with Katey Reece

Katey started yoga to improve her flexibility and stretching but quickly realised that it offered so much more than just a physical benefit and fell in love with the learning, awareness and connectivity she felt with herself. The feeling of balance that yoga gives her spreads from the mat into her everyday life and grounds her in the present, bringing a calmness even on tough days.

Becoming a qualified and certified yoga teacher was an easy decision for Katey as she loves the feeling and endorphins released from the pleasure of helping others to feel good about themselves and reach their goals. She is also fascinated with human anatomy and the capabilities of the human body, so working as a yoga teacher enables her to indulge these passions.

Katey has lived all over the world with her dance and fitness career but has spent the last two winters in St Martin de Belleville and is extremely excited to spend some of the summer there too this year. She feels that the beautiful and magical setting perfectly complements the practice of yoga and the mountain air instantly provides a feeling of wellness and vitality. She feels that living in the French Alps encourages a healthy lifestyle with uplifting scenery, delicious water from the tap, mile upon mile of walking routes and a serene and calming atmosphere – what more could you want from a yoga destination.

When we asked Katey for a favourite mantra or quote she quickly responded with ‘Distraction is the obesity of the mind’ as she feels that in today’s consumerist world, where we are constantly distracted by smart phones, ipads, TVs and the internet, yoga has a huge part to play in taking you away from such distractions and just concentrating on yourself and the mat. It brings you to the present moment and banishes distractions (at least for a time) which is a such a struggle for so many people in the way we currently live our lives.
